Usage of Uninyvin Cables in UPS Systems
Conductor Heating Factor

Conventional PVC Cables, Pvc Cables, Pvc Control Cables, Pvc Cables, Control Cables are made out of Bare Copper bunched together with Normal PVC Insulation capable of withstanding 70.c. As per
Indian Standard (IS 694) the cable size is increased to get the
required rating. There is no risk of conductor heating but the
increased size means increase in cost and cable weight. The
increasing trend in the metal cost also attributes to its share in
the cost factor. Resistence is comparatively low in Normal PVC
cables. The more conductors mean more investment and additional
weight for the equipments. Using aluminium conductor is never
suggested as a solution because bending the cable will break the
conductors and there is always to take once size higher than copper
cable to get the required ratings.
Uninyvin Cables, conventional pvc cables, pvc cables, pvc control cables, pvc cables, control cables are made out of Annealed Tin Copper Conductor laid up uniformly with Heat Resistant PVC insulation capable of
withstanding 105.c conductor temperature during the continuous
operation. To get more fire retardancy Nylon and Fiber Glass
braiding is provided in the outer layers. Nylon and Fibre Glass is
known for high temperature withstanding properties and the heat
generated in the conductor due to continuous operation will not be
felt in or outside the UPS system and thereby no heat effect to the
installation and surrounding areas. Fibre Glass braiding is also
resistance to Fluids, Acids and Chemicals since the UPS
installations are mainly in the commercial or industrial premises
where oils. Chemicals, and solvents are being used as in put
materials for manufacturing. |

Compact, Low Weight, Easy To Move, User Friendly
Equipments
Future is for compact machines and easy to carry models. Using
normal pvc cables, conventional pvc cables, pvc cables, pvc control cables, pvc cables, control cables in Ups systems will increase the risk of abnormal weight, design problems because of the wiring. Reducing the size of
equipment with Normal Cabling and Higher Range will again increase
the risk of cable faults because a minor temperature variation in
conductor will damage the insulation of the cable in a compact
environment. PVC outer insulation is always risk when the conductor
temprature is high due to load factor and the cable altogether get
heated and the heat will provoke fire if paper waste, wooden items,
critical plastic case, any other genuine equipments that can ignite
fire in a office or work area circumstances. The possibility of
office this fire can be prevented due to high rate of fire
retardancy in Uninyvin cables. The conductor temperature will
increase in the cable but the cable will not expose the conductor
temperature to an outside body or material lying in the vinicity of
the equipment wherein the wire is used any contact with the
accumulation of flammable particles like wastes, paper or cloths or
any particles that could lead to external fire and damage.
In UPS systems research is on to make all the models user friendly
by size, design, weight and visual aspects. UPS manufacturer
applying latest technology in UPS manufacturing. Their R&D is on
the job of designing various users friendly UPS, which are, look
compact, low weight and perform well in terms of power supply. The
uninyvin cables are applied inside as power cable kits, power
sharing cubicles as well as all the necessary internal systems.
These cables can also be considered for laying purpose with proper
selection of the cable no yield in the communication industry.
G.177 British Standard states the requirements for Nyvin type
cables for aircraft wiring. The Cables are suitable for use in
circuits in which the voltage between conductors, between a
conductor and a metal braid surrounding it and between a conductor
and the aircraft structure nowhere exceeds 600 Volts r.m.s and in
which the frequency does not exceed 1600 c/s. The cables are
suitable for use where, in continuous service, no combination of
ambient temperature and conductor current produces a stabilized
conductor temperature in excess of 105.c. They are suitable for
fixed wiring in aircraft at temperature below -30'C.
This standard prescribes the physical, dimensional, electrical
climatic requirements and test methods for the Navy in type critical
cable for aircraft wiring. The cables are suitable for use in
circuits which the voltage between conductors, between the cables do
not support combustion but they do not comply with the requirements
of Britsh Standard G.100. This cables are suitable for use in areas
where Easter-base fluids are present.
UPS Systems manufacturers use these very special cables, qualifying
norms of fire ret ardency as per BS 177 clubbed with its compact
size due to high level of fire ret ardency this cables cannot be
substitute besides being considered as low weight and high
performance cables in respect of ratings, die-electrical strength,
heat resistance, mechanical strength and flexibility. These cables
also contribute a great towards the noise in ths equipments and
there in parley with the noise norms laid down by the regulatory
authorities. A Case study using Nyvin -10 in the UPS is done by ERTL
research team also made a report on this which is sending for study.

| Comparison
Chart of PVC Cable & Uninyvin Cable |
| Construction |
PVC

Uninyvin
Cable |
| Conductor |
Bare Copper Conductor
With Normal Bunching process.
Result :- Fails to get the specified ratings due to gap in the lay,
improper contact and oxidation while contacting the air. |
Tinned Copper Conductor with
Unilayed Bunching process.
Result: - Reduce power loss due to Tinning and better contact and
current carrying due to Unilaying the conductor. |
| Insulation |
Type A Insulation Compound
conforming to IS: 5130 is used.
Result: - Conforming to IS:694 specifications. Thermal Stability is
70.c. Insulation will be affected if the conductor temperature moves
beyond 70.c. Toxic Smoke and Toxic Gases will be released if the
temperature is more than 80.c. |
Type C Heat Resistant
Compound is used.
Result: - There is no adverse effect to cables if the conductor
temperature is up to 105 .c . There is absolutely no risk of Smoke
and Toxic Gases up to 120.c
And the critical issues of heating and burning of cables are
eliminated at this insulation level itself. |
| Nylon Braid |
Not Applicable |
Withstands the conductor
heating up to 350.c. Melting point of Nylon is above 350.c and it
gives more thermal stability to the cable. Density of Nylon is low
compare to PVC. This will reduce the weight of the cable. |
| Fibre Glass Braiding |
Not Applicable |
Fiber Glass is a bad conductor
and has Good mechanical strength. This property of Fiber Glass will
give Fire ret ardency during the fire. Do not allow conductor heat
mess up with heat of the external parts of the UPS equipment, which
are easy to, caught fire. Works as a protection shield and not allow
the conductor hear to spread beyond the core of the cable. Good
mechanical strength of Fiber Glass prevents the breaking of cables
from external forces like pressure, vibrations, shocks and hits. |
| Nylon laquering |
Not Applicable |
Holds Nylon and Fiber Glass
Braiding together and improves the fire ret ardency and mechanical
strength of the cable. |
| Ratings |
Variations are always there
Due to lay differences, construction and purity of copper,
oxidation factors. ISI mark and other quality marks are in existence
to make sure the quality of the product. However, the specified
ratings are defined on basis of resistance and not on the basis of
Area of Copper. |
Better Ratings due to
organized construction and input materials. Compulsory norms as per
aviation standards. Additional care has been taken to get the
specified ratings while using the cable. De-rating factors and
voltage drop is defined and specified to select the correct cable.
|
| Usage |
Weight of Cable is really
troubling the design people. To get the required higher ratings,
heavy cables are being used in the installation. This will increase
the equipment weight as well as installation time. These Cables are
insulated with Normal PVC and subject to fire and smoke due to short
circuit or any leakage of power. |
Low weight and easy to use
With Specified Higher ratings supported by physical tesing.30-40%
weight of cable is reduced while using uninyvin cables.
User-friendly option with high level of fire ret ardency and no
substitute cables available with these features. Widely used in
Switchgears, Ups Panels etc., due to low weight and high level of
fire ret ardency. |
| Price |
High due to more copper
content. Economical disadvantage is also considered a major factor
not using for these cables in the Power Equipments. |
Comparatively 20-30% lower
than the PVC Cable due to less copper usage. Cables of Higher
Ratings are economical & Ideal for UPS, Battery Cables and Power
Wiring in the DC drives, Automation Panels etc due to space
constraints and performance point of view. Good Cable is an integral
part of critical machines like UPS. |
